Cecilia Clivati, INRiM researcher and SENSEI project coordinator, was invited to present the first-year achievements of SENSEI at the 2025 General Assembly of the REFIMEVE Research Infrastructure. It took place on December 1–2 at Université Grenoble Alpes (France), bringing together partners and stakeholders of the infrastructure to review recent progress and ongoing activities.
REFIMEVE (Réseau Fibré Métrologique à Vocation Européenne / Metrological Fibre Network at European Vocation) is a major French national research infrastructure dedicated to long-haul time and frequency distribution, fundamental physics, and fiber-based sensing.
It is coordinated by two research laboratories (both linked to CNRS) that are members of SENSEI consortium:
- Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers (LPL) – CNRS, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord
- Laboratoire Temps-Fréquence (LTE) – Paris Observatory–PSL, CNRS, Sorbonne University, LNE
- With the support of RENATER (French National Telecommunications Network for Technology, Education and Research)
The infrastructure spans several thousand kilometers of optical fiber, enabling cutting-edge research and metrological services across France and Europe.

The presentation of SENSEI project was focused on synergies with time-and-frequency networks throughout Europe. These developments reaffirm the remarkable scientific potential of a single fiber pair, especially when enhanced with state-of-the-art photonics technologies.
